Strangely the drop off isn't reflected here.

Now that was a tyre with rim protection.

Of course park correctly , but there is always that idiot who should be giving away to your right of way or is driving in the middle of the road .

I'm only reporting my findings. Cold weather and they are terrible. The RS3s are far less temperature sensitive.

Those reports don't even mention temperature.
I chose to replace the Assymetric 2s with Falken FK510. So far a much better experience though still no RS3.
The Falkens are also quieter.

Ran a mix over some 120k miles on mine...Michelins were expensive and didn’t last any longer than hankook, avons were good if put on front to harden a little, Nexen were amazing - 40k miles from a set..

I have been considering the Falken, terrible on fuel though but they are much quieter, hope I can hold on for the RS5

The Falkens may be wider than 255 to be that bad on fuel or just not an optimal design .

Tyre manufacturers can manipulate width and profile to make the tyre perform differently .

I'm running Avon Zv7 at the minute. Can't complain, very good compared the Dunlops that came with the car.

I had 2 W211s, an E220, and E270. The E220 ran over 110k miles on Michellins as part of the lease deal, so never bothered about the mileage.

The E270 started on Conti's that wore on the front inner shoulders, a feature of heavier engine. The rears started with Conti's too and wore pretty well to 23k. Then had Kuhmo that ran for 38k on the rears. Followed by Dunlops that were still good when p/ex at 32k on them.

Trying to make sense of the issue?
Think he’s referring to his earlier post about rim protection being good but if you get someone not giving you write if way and you have to dive for the kerbs not to hit them

Or anticipate and drive slowly enough not to need to.
I'd be very careful around that van anyway as there could be a kid hidden behind.
Not sure someone not giving way in that situation deserved the little tirade accompanying the picture.

For what it's worth, I've had Uniroyal Rainsports on my E320 W211 now for five years - I'm on my third set over a distance of 80,000 miles. My wheels take 225/55 R16 95Y tyres that cost £90 each last time (Jan 2019) (Uniroyal don't do a W rated tyre in my size, hence the Y's) and they are cheap at twice the price as my mum used to say. They have awesome grip, especially in the wet, and great stopping power. They are also reasonably quiet.

Hi folks,

I have a very beloved and trusty 2005 W211 E270, now with around 160k on the clock, having added around 100k myself over the last five and bit years. It's a brilliant car, and has been mercifully inexpensive to run and pretty trouble-free.

The only possible niggle is it seems to get through a set of tyres every year. I can't complain too much really - around 20k for a set of tyres doesn't seem all that bad really for such a large and presumably quite heavy car - far better than the mileage I get on the my motorbike tyres!

I've more or less always run Pirelli P7 Cinturato - I'm pretty sure that was what was fitted on the car when I bought. I had a set of Hankooks, and a brief dabble with a budget tyre during a brief spell of unemployment-derived purse-string tightening. But otherwise always the Pirellis. I have no real reason to complain - they seem to perform adequately and last ok. I've had a bit of a run of punctures in the last few years, but that generally only seems to occur when the tyres are low anyway - most recently on a tyre that's only got my 2.5mm of tread left, and seems to have picked up a small bit of flint.

So anyway, the point of the thread - a dreaded internet forum tyre thread! What is everyone else running on W211s, and what are your experiences when it comes to tyre wear and life?

Thanks in advance, and well done for getting this far!

I had 4 Dunlop SportMaxx on my E500 Bought them for low noise which they were. Seemed to grip as well as I needed them to, never had ABS kick in and traction control very rarely, maybe I wasn't trying hard enough.

Not sure about mileage as I sold the car.

I have always use Kumho HS51 Solus all year round on my E320 CDI, on my third set over 50000miles, first set was ruined by bad suspension geometry when I bought the car. Tyres give good grip even on snow and ice, I live in the Highlands so I see plenty of it. Good grip in the wet and dry and they are quite too.
