Hi folks,

One of the headlamps on my 2005 W211 has gone pink, so it looks like I need to replace it. Never dealt with xenon beams before, so don't really know what to buy, but it seems like there are D1S, D2S, and even D3S - can anyone advise which type I need to buy, and maybe even point me in the right direction? Prices seem to vary wildly!

Thank you in advance!

Hi, just replaced one on my drivers side, on my E350 W 212 2010 CDI. D1S 35 W. Mercedes wanted £138.00 + VAT not including fitting. Bought one from local parts supplier £26.51. I could have bought a pair on ebay for £27.00. but was not sure of type and size, so was easier to use local supplier.
I had to approach from underside, removing wheel the removing plastic inner wing (several plastic rivets and two 8mm bolts and two 10mm bolts. Hardest part of job was removing and refitting the inner wing.
When you remove the bulb buy rotating anti clockwise from 12 oclock to about 10 oclock and pull out you need to retain the black plastic ring clip (about 2" dia) and fit to the new bulb. Fitting is reverse procedure.
As I said my car is W212. Took about one hour thirty mins. Hope this helps.

If it's going pink then it's almost certainly the ballast and not the lamp which has gone. You will have D2R in your car.

That's good to know, thank you - I was wondering that. Thank you for advising, that's really appreciated.

The easiest way to get to the ballast is to remove the wheel and the wheelarch liner. You will then have access to the underside of the headlamp unit where the ballast mounts into, with three screws, two of which are at the front and on top, so you can only reach them by feel. Or remove the bumper...

Sounds awkward and fiddly! The car is due to go in for a major service soon, so maybe I'll get that done for me!

It took me 1.5 hours and the main bit of awkwardness was working out how to get my hex key to the ballast...

If it is same side than SBC unit, it is PITA... even normal H7 bulb was &%&#&%/ job... other side you can just lift coolant expansion tank slightly up and side
