I have a 59 plate e250, when accelerating the engine revs surge about 1800-2000 revs, usually only in fifth gear.

Any one any clues what causes this and more importantly how much will it cost to repair!!

Car seems to run fine but when I accelerate the engine revs suddenly 'jump' from 1800 to about 2500 then decrease. Only seems to happen when accelerating from fifth to sixth.
Car was serviced (by an indy) about a month ago and nothing was mentioned to me then about any diagnostic error codes.

Do you mean that as you change from 5th to 6th the engine revs jump? Could be just you mistiming your changes? In a manual car it is impossible for revs to jump whilst in gear...unless the clutch is slipping.

it does it while still in gear, not changing gear. Slipping clutch sounds expensive
