as per the topic, had to put some water in the screen washer this morning, did that, closed the bonnet very hard as i've seen the red warning light before, it took three slams of the bonnet to get the red warning to disappear on my instrument panel, and i mean really really hard slams which feel over the top for normal closing of a bonnet....

where is the problem here, is a sensor covered in oil/dirt or something, can anyone help me with the location of the sensor that detects if the bonnet is closed or not, i'd appreciate it

cheers
niall

yeah crap happens, to me. Any how between this, the dead DVD changer and the dead glowplugs, it's now hard to start the car in the morning, i'll save up and buy another 4 new glowplugs and then get it fixed....

i've ignored this issue but it's happening more and more lately, i guess that's because in the winter i have to keep opening the bonnet to fill the windscreen washer fluid with appropriate fluid, and every time i close the bonnet i go through a 3 or 4 'closing the bonnet' cycle before the red screen goes away,

i've had a look at the latch and it's nearly impossible to get my fingers or anything else under it to see the 'loose' sensor, does anyone have any recommendation for how to deal with it, the photos in the linked post are tiny so i can't make out any useful details...

Is not it easier to unscrew the slam panel to get to the switch in the lock

I had the same problem and replaced the drivers side sensor/release unit but the problem persisted.

Check the plastic container where the cables from both the release latches merge. The cable was sticking after the bonnet release was pulled. Opened the container, sprayed inside with Teflon Spray, problem solved.

Hi my friend has just bought a 2012 e350 he opened the bonnet & the light has come on the dash & won't go out. But the release inside the car also bust or came away from its mount it seams very flimsy. Is there any way of working through what could be wrong as he's just got the car so a little miffed
