Has anyone else had this issue?

The plastic panel that the hazard light switch is mounted in, between the air vents on the W212 E class, squeaks like mad, especially when cold.

Is it easy to get out? Prise from the front, or release from the back?

I was thinking a bit of Vaseline around it might stop it squeaking...

I would suggest PTFE faced tape. By 3M. Sometimes called “silent tape”. It’s what car designers use on trim.
