Looking at the attachment in LostKiwi's post, there seems to be a groove under the glass sunroof that the rubber (windshield wiper like) portion on the mesh slides into as shown on the first posters pictures.

I don't have that 'groove' (guide rail #8) under my sunroof. Does anyone else who is having this issue have that groove as shown in the pdf ?

Yes, on 2009 e350 panoramic roof. The groove is in the guide rail (8) which is attached to the mesh, so if detached from the front glass roof doesn't appear to be in the position shown in PDF (which was a great help, local merc dealer couldn't provide - so thanks for posting). The guide rail can slide on and off the mesh of the deflector. Sliding back on, if you have taken off, may require a mild lubricant. I found the issue for my problem was that the mesh of the deflector which drops from "bar" was fixed the wrong way around (not sure by who), so the guide wouldn't fit under the front glass roof correctly. I needed to take the bar off and reverse the mesh fitting. The guide fits under the front glass roof water proof beading it needs gentle but firm pressure to push in - no fixings. The challenge when pushing the guide in is that the bar is in the full upright position through the spring, so depress it slightly and make sure you push the guide rail up under the front glass roof all the way along from driver to passenger side. In normal operation the sliding back mechanism opens the spring gradually so it gets to full tension without pulling the guide rail out.

Hi Mueed, I never got around to fixing it as it looked a pain fix so I just took the deflector off in the end. I don't use the sunroof that often so I'm not too bothered...

Hi, I have the same issue with my gle. It just popped out the other day. I have seen these instructions. Did this fix it. Do you unclip hinges and slide the runner back in? Do you have to remove the front piece of glass?
