Thermostat changed and problem fixed.

Thermostat was located in an inaccessible area so the mechanic had to do it. Took him over 3 hours! £200 Labour.

Glad it's fixed. I guess that hourly labour rate for London isn't too bad?

This was a normal independent garage, not a merc specialist.

I think they felt sorry for me as they genuinely couldn’t believe it took this long to change a thermostat!

Just as well I read the thread through, as I was wondering when someone was going to mention that it was inaccessible. A friend with a C Class had his done by MB and got a bill of more than twice yours! Given the reputation MBs have for devouring thermostats, it's beyond me why they make them so inaccessible.

Glad yours is fixed now, though.
