I have recently purchased a 2017 E class 220d which I'm pleased with, I just have one question relating to the engine.

I have noticed that the engine is quite loud and what I can only describe as boomy I've even had people asking me if I had an exhaust leak.

Does anyone have any ideas if this is a problem or are these engines just loud as standard?

Hello and welcome

The 220d OM654 engine is quiet (for a diesel).

Is your AdBlue going down with usage and is it doing DPF regens?

(I‘m wondering if a previous owner has gutted the DPF and disabled the AdBlue)… :( I’m naturally suspicious

Hi adblue reading all ok topped up by myself and working on the digital readout.
The engine is boomy as mentioned appears to be coming from the front of the car directly below where I sit.
This happens all the time it's not an intermittent problem, almost sounds like the car has had a dpf delete and a straight pipe on.

I know when DPF regeneration occurs the car can go louder but this is present constantly

I’d get it to a garage and up on a lift and get a proper look at the exhaust

@LostKiwi just bought a car that the DPF had been gutted from, it’s not working out well for the selling garage or the previous owner…
