    hi,
when I bought this car it had this problem and it annoys me every time I open or close the drivers side door, basically you here a loud clicking like as if a metal plate is springing back against another, that clicks twice every time i open or close the door, all the other doors open quietly as you'd expect,

I've looked at the W213 door hinges and they seem to be welded shut so i cannot see what is wrong or how to fix it,
has anyone any ideas about what the issue is and how to fix it ?

    cheers
    niall

i'm not sure, i think its the lower of the two hinges, i'll take some video of it today to show you where the sound is coming from, also i cannot see any way to lubricate it... it's not like previous models

No check strap, look for a small stub of a bolt, poss 6 or 7mm on the hinge and tighten.

    Hi,

I too have recently bought a year old w213 and since receiving it have found the drivers door is making the clicking sound and not always closing at first attempt.

I have seen your solution above to tighten a 7mm nut on the lower hinge. I have tried this but it does not move. I am interested to know how much force you needed to apply to turn the nut? Was there a lot of resistance or very little?
I am afraid of ringing the nut or threads and very interested to know of your experience and force required.

Unfortunately with current Covid-19 restrictions it is not easy to get to MB dealer for them to take a look.

    Many thanks!

mine was loose and didn't need much force at all to tighten. are you sure the clicking noise i reported is coming from your lower hinge

Hm, thank you for confirming. The click in mine is not so loud so difficult to tell where it comes from. I feel the two pops more so. I have a 2017 that opens smoothly. Thanks anyway, perhaps I will need to wait to get access to the dealership.

what i did was to put my finger tips on the lower hinge while moving the door open/close to see if i could feel the click, that was how i narrowed it down to the lower hinge, have you verified that ? the 7mm nut is below the line of sight of the hinge, so at first glance you won't see it (it's under the hinge from memory)
