hi, on my way to the shop today I got a message on my dashboard, Fill up with Adblue, or something similar, and from previous reading, I know it is important to keep adblue topped up so I went and bought 10 liters of the stuff, and filled it all in, but... am i supposed to fill more than that or should i be good to go until i get the next warning ?

thanks in advance for your advice
cheers
niall

Hello,

Never jumped up to the advlue experience personally, even though my current car is Euro 6 and does away with it, but from reading other posts it needs to be brought back to full tank before the message goes away. Anyone else can free to correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks

If the warning has gone out, then leave it. Adding more will effectively mean you are dragging more weight (fluid) around.

The only time I would fill it to the top is before a Garage service as, what you buy it for, is probably going to be a lot less than the Garage will charge you to do it.

The same with Coolant and Screenwash, but not Brake Fluid.

In my Tiguan it goes away as long as you put some in.
When I bought the v w the garage
said they would keep it topped up just call in on passing.
So at least I don’t need to buy it.

If you go to the Service menu on the dash display, you can scroll down to AdBlue and see how full the tank is and approx mileage until you next need to fill. 10 litres should get it a bit over half full and give you around 5,000 miles (8,000 km) IIRC.

Cheers,
Bill

Your car will use very roughly one litre per thousand miles.

It will hold ~20 ltrs and takes a few minutes of running to work out you've filled it up. I used to get about 8,000 - 10,000 miles on the 20 ltrs. Mercedes would add 10 ltrs (free..) at a service

Easier to use a pump at a fuel station than decant from containers.
Agreed on that, when it dries you get white crystals all over the bodywork, your trousers and shoes...

My car is EU6 and has the Adblue tank where the spare wheel would normally go.

I have never topped mine up though as it’s done at the service and I guess my mileage is low compared to many owners.

My mate has a land rover with the add-blue filler next to the deisel filler. He was just advised the dealer would fill up during service.

I had the message come up on mine a couple of months back. I bought a 10l container from a petrol station and put it in. The message went off after a couple of starts and it's been fine ever since. I understand that MB will top it up as part of the service, but that doesn't help when it's used up between services.

I thought it was odd a dealer advising they will top up at service when it's topped up when required.

Mine ( v w ) does 7000 mls to a fill
filler cap beside diesel cap.
Cost if buying £12-13 a fill.
V W said just call in and they will top it up when required, this is when I got the car new be interesting to see if they keep their word as time passes.
