Good evening all.

I’m hoping this is just a simple case of a plug and play, remove and replace. How ever sometimes the whole car illuminates red. Is it possible for one sensor to make the whole lot do this? It goes off randomly all the time, especially when virtually stopping at a set of lights.

also, are these basic parking sensors or more advanced being the car has remote parking etc.

(sensor is just to the left of the “M” on the
Number plate)

many thanks

i had the same issue after damaging part of my bumper/number plate, i got a new number plate but didn't screw it in solidly, while it looked ok whenever it rained one or two of my sensors went ballistic, i got them replaced. It did not solve the issue, so i removed the number plate and screwed in additional screws to hold the number plate holder firmer in place, after doing that i've not had a problem since, i probably didn't even need to replace the sensors,

so.. question is, have you had any damage to the number plate/area recently ? is it sitting very firm or 'loose' ?

Hi. How’s it going.

I picked the Car up about 3 months ago (not from a Merc dealership so is t covered) all was fine for about 3 weeks. I came to a junction and as a car went passed me at speed it set the sensor off and it keeps doing it ever since. I’ll do abit more homework ie on you tube etc but was hoping if someone had the same issue. Are these simply just plug and play? I was thinking of swapping two of the sensors in the bumper but I don’t want to have an issue with remote parking etc. Do these need to be programmed in? But the car hasn’t been hit and everything looks solid. I’m just wondering if it just happens to be a faulty sensor that I can just unplug and replace. Apologies but I don’t want to go tampering if it will cause me more Agg and more money as sometimes it makes the whole lot go red!!

cheers

please re-read what i posted and answer what i asked, i think that will help

i'll add the question here for you again..

"so.. question is, have you had any damage to the number plate/area recently ? is it sitting very firm or 'loose' ?"

maybe someone reversed into your car's number plate while you were parked and loosened or damaged it, if it's loose, your sensors will fire at traffic lights, etc and especially when it's wet...as they will 'see' the number plate holder as an actual 'problem'

Hi.

sorry. I see what you’re saying now. I’ll check the number plate and see if it’s loose. I may take the number plate holder off and give that a go….

thanks and sorry about that

cheers

Just a thought. My current car has some sort of collision avoidance system that ofetn stet off an alarm on the parking sensors if I fail to brake quickly enough when pulling up to traffic lights. Could this be what you are gettting???

which model was it that after enthusiastic driving in wet weather got the connections to the sensors or a junction box behind the bumper rather damp and it caused odd behaviour?

I don’t think that’s it. What I’m confused about is when one is faulty sometimes the whole of the outside turns red? Are the parking sensors a stand alone system or do they need to be programmed in (being as it appears on the screen etc) would I need any sort of OBD device or is it just simply plug and play.

At a cost. Are these just simply take out and remove and replace? Will the computer recognise one has been removed and will it require programming in?

not sure whether they are plug and play but as you have remote parking (me too) you need to know that not all of the sensors on the front are the same type
, some just to pdc some do additional checking, so check the p/n on each sensor if you go that route... they cost me about 85GBP each (I replaced two, waste of money)

an easy test for you, remove the number plate+number plate holder, take the car for a drive (with your number plate showing in your front windscreen), does the problem go away ? if so it's down to incorrectly fitted number plate (like my issue..)

I guess the idea is to say the messages from the front are inaccurate - and to save the lawsuit - its better to just say that area is being troublesome - we told you... so when you do the bumper, its your problem not Mercedes'

Yeah I’ll try that tomorrow. I’ve got a long drive so that will be a good test…

Yes. I suppose that makes perfect sense. Cover their bums shall we say

A diags on star will identify a duff sensor, if you have a friendly inly it will take them not long to give you an answer.

Is there a device that I can buy myself officially that will help with any problems going forward?
Thanks for your help

Edited: Pretty sure there is a know bug atm with 360 cams. There may be something with the numberplate. If the previous dealer has changed it… the parking system will need recallibration. Let me find the bulletin or I’m just making it up …

It’s for the facelift … but think it’s a software issue. Mine does it as well (e class estate)

LI54.65-P-072065 APR21 – 213 facelift / 238 facelift with code 235 and 501 erroneous visual or acoustic alert from parking sensors, or parking assist unavailable, calibrate 360° camera system (if installed) then if required re-commission parking system control unit if problem persists replace parking system control unit.
