CL500 W216
Hi All,

Looking to purchase a 2008 W216 CL500, however the radio amp is cooked and needs replacement. £800 is the replacement cost, so obviously scouting for alternatives other than sendin the unit away for repair.

Does the OEM amp do anything more than a similarly sized and rated aftermarket amp? A W216 amp is now 10+ years old, a newer amp can only be better? Or does Merc Command not like new hardware?

Thanks in advance,
Rob

It part of the MOST bus, and also contains the radio tuner. It cannot be replaced by aftermarket unfortunately.

I mean, It probably can, but would require a huge amount of electronic development and reverse engineering.

Thanks for the reply Alex, that's what I feared. Trying to track down a used component.

been a few posts about this, not heard of long term success on a repair, is it the big HK amp or the smaller one.
I got a later small one for 250 out of a 2010 car, later part number, plugs straight in and works....

but checking the other day for updates (for a fix re. the clock re GPS' issue with time / date roll over happening 6 April 2019 - answer is not yet - probably never) Xentry had a moment saying the later amp isn't recognised as a suitable unit (same component just later software!) and I can't flash the comand and all other systems in one go as is the Mercedes way using this amp. I'll need to put the old one in and hope it lasts long enough to take the 3 hr programming

Here is a recent thread regarding the HK amp
