That is not related and probably down to somebody sapping the commabd unit for some reason and not coding it correctly.

Hey guys,

yesterday I visited MB dealer, they made full Star diagnostics.
The good news are that car doesn´t show any serious problems, but the bad news are they can´t sort out the Comand problems.
They said the car Comand system didn´t even allow them to recode it. They tried to inflate the seats with Star and they are working perfectly.
But they weren´t able to tell where is the problem.

Should I try to buy new/used Comand unit? I am not sure if the previous owner didn´t change it for some reason, therefore the issues.
It´s not a big problem, but I don´t want this kind of car without rear camera, seat functions, etc.

I had issues with rear camera and dynamic seats not working because of battery drain killing the battery

sorted battery drain put new battery and rear cameraworking other gremlins gone

Dynamic seats yet to solve

No star to recode it, battery won't fix menu items being missing

Wow. I didn´t hear about this before, even the dealer didn´t mention that. The ´STAR developer´ is kind of advanced STAR? So I won´t look like a dabbler in MB

I did it the old fashioned way with mutimeter attached to battery and pulling fuses out till problematic modual found

I just had a call with biggest MB dealer from capital city and they didn´t ever hear about ´Developer´ STAR version.

I´m starting to be demoralized...

The dealers will not know about or use Developer, you will have to find an independent that has it, out in Slovakia I’m afraid I wouldn’t know where to start but phoning around some Mercedes specialists and specifically asking if the have STAR Developer available and are confident in coding modules.
Developer is extremely powerful and can do a lot of damage if you don’t know what your doing, so make sure they are competent.

Comand units are coded with the toy count in the original car, if its died and been replaced by one from a car that didn't have massaging seats, the menus are not enabled.... that I think is what Alex is saying.

it probably also explains why the dealer can't/don't want to look at it - they plugged it in it said all wrong and they just gave up (usual main dealer reaction)

it is possible to update the comand unit at home with dealer equipment OFFLINE BUT few do it as its a risky procedure as it does multiple units on the car one after the other... the online handshake to Germany allegedly gets the tool in the right frame of mind to do it right. The AC turns its self off afterwards and must be re-enabled in STAR

I'm not an expert but these days I think the central gateway contains the official list of toys in the car and this is what informs Germany what you can and can't code and with what software iterations...

a full comand update is a great idea as is all four the door modules - then we have the engine and the gearbox that need to be updated But these are the two units the original service history / warranty probably did update) - they rest likely was NEVER touched and from my experience its best left well alone - Mercedes' hobby it to retrospectively make the car worse so you buy a new one !!!

the seats leak air everywhere and the backrest modules all just give up.... you'll soon learn all about software and replacing modules - and reading fix it forums

My CL216 one day got confused with winter summer time.
basically the Command system is at 3.00pm and the clock is at 2.00pm.
As a user I had to choose is the display clock at the right time, but all your Navi est arrival times wrong or the other way around!
main dealer said they couldn’t fix it with Star. As the Whole Command system needed updating £260.
Note they did some sort of update, because the Interface now looks more Modern / LED like??
Then along came Covid so I didnt progress it!

As said by another poster, there seems to me to be a lot more to this Command system, than just adjusting the stereo and seats

Thanks guys. I wrote to the local MB forum and just got an answer from man who probably has the correct Star. He said it shouldn´t be a problem to recode the Comand, but he´s quite busy now so I have to wait.

About the seats, dealer confirmed they are working 100% properly without leaks (they inflated them directly with Star). Meanwhile I disassembled the seats and checked the wires, air tubes and didn´t find any damage.

Today I checked some eBay pics of Comands and I´m starting to think I don´t have 100% correct unit in, because it just doesn´t look exactly like the ones I´ve found.
Tomorrow I´ll post some pics of the unit.

there might be a cheap model without NAV in certain markets
the phone was an optional extra in early cars
the 2005 to early 2009 are NTG 3.0 comand units (more reliable - less features) and the maps can be updated and the disc removed - last version 2019
then 2009 facelift to 2013 NTG 3.5 comand unit looks much the same but under the flap it has a removeable cover to get at the hdisk… these need removing and backing up before they self destruct killing the headunit (£1200 or maybe 700 second hand of fleabay) the later one has BT phone built in. But not music streaming. The maps need a PIN code to update and they stopped supporting map updates earlier than they did on the old units

Not sure about NAV, because I didn´t try it, but it looks like it will be working, although with old maps. I also tried to connect my phone via BT and again, it´s working, but probably for calls only- I wasn´t able to play music from the phone.

Soo...this is the Comand unit in my car. I hope it will help to solve the mystery, because actually it looks a bit different than units from eBay, etc.
