Hi all,

Very recently I have been having some very loud distortion noises through speakers(and occasionally going silent while track is still playing on Command) more so when car is cold. I am thinking it could be the HK logic 7 amp on its way out because headunit works as normal and can see track is still playing from time counter.

Does anyone know what part number i should be looking at when searching for replacement. I can see alot listed on Ebay for MOST setup but they only mention Becker which makes me think they are for non HK setups.

Car is W219 CLS 55 AMG.

any help is greatly appreciated.

All depends on what model year your CLS is.

From 205 to 2008 (model year) the HK amp is built into the Audio gateway. Model year 2009/2010 the amp is a separate device.

Not just Merc , my 4 series HK amp fried and took out the dash speaker in dramatic style at less than a year old.

Mine is 2006 so will be built in AGW. A211 870 40 89 but there are few variations of same kit. Can you guide me toward which i need to try find and if its simple plug and play or need coding...thanks in advance.

I think with age it is expected tbh and all electrics will fail at end of life right.

I don't agree pal HK kit fails where others do not and the cost of replacing is frankly ridiculous , MB only give a 2 year warranty on new HK amps , that's proves how little faith they have in the make

good luck pal , you may need it ! what bugs me is the Bose set up in my 215 , the CD player failed , well the power / most connector failed due to water ingress , I got another complete CD player 2nd hand for £25 delivered , when my 216's amp failed it was 600 quid for a 2nd hand one , go figure ?

I may try 2nd hand one first, otherwise I may bin the entire setup and go aftermarket! but didnt want the OEM look inside on stereo if I can help it​

The AGW with built in HK amp is not £1k at all. Last time I bought one it was about £600.

You can fit the non HK one and it will work but it wont drive all the speakers. These are about £400.

Ive had HK and retrofitted it to many cars. Not a single failure in my experience. That said we have had the odd customer come in with faulty HK and Bose amps. No more than any other make though.

Thank you, very useful info. Would you be able to suggest me part number I will be looking at please or advise how much you could possible supply/fit one for? Mine is currently working so its not immediate need but i like being prepared!!

Sorry missed the bit about it being the built in unit, my number was the separate amp in the boot and that would be from Mercedes

I wouldn't bother, after my W211's HK amp failed I tried 3 (tested and working) secondhand units, they were all rubbish, one was covered in rust! In the end I got one from Alfie (Command Lightwater) for around half the price of a refurbished one from MB.
