Hi,

S class (w220) in to merc main dealer as it has again decided to change to a low rider (car too low error).

This is the third time its been in (two pumps one of which I paid for the other on a warranty).

The have done the leak checks and none found :), they have checked the struts etc - no leaks :), they now inform me that they want to order in the suspension controller (W2205454132) at nearly £1K + VAT to see if theyty can rule it out

Anyone got any ideas, as they have been great but they seem to be struggling a little

I'm worried about the possible cost if it is this  does anyone know if these can be repaired (probably not is my thought) or know if a break has a more reasonable cost part ?

thanks in anticipation,

chris.

I had the same suspension control unit replaced under warranty and it fixed the same problem as you. I dont think it can be repaired. But you should be able to get one on e bay for about £200

This one might do £100 ...........

Come to think of it Malcolm ,I think it was a relay which they replaced in mine and maybe not a control unit?

I had this feeling that it is the relay that over runs the pump,,I have just turned on the other computer and I will check

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately they have already changed the relay when then did the air pump (twice!), apparently this is now standard practice.

I guess i'll have to try and find one from someone breaking a S320 as I really dont want to spend £1k + Vat + fitting !.

Still love the car though...

Anyone got any other ideas - i did hear (not sure where!) that you can get a kit to remove the air suspension and replace with more standard techonology, | did this with a range rover P38 but not sure about doing it on a mercedes - seems to defeat the object really but this is driving me mad :mad: !!

Grateful for anything that will help keep the costs down !:D If you can find one that would be great, I think what worries me is the fact that they want to swap it to see if it helps , this might be the last thing to try but it seems a little hit and miss to me. If it fixes it then it might be good value (!!) especially if I can find a 2nd ahand one, but if I did pay that and it went again I would not be very happy at all....

Are there any specialist specialists (!) that really know how to deal with the suspension ?

Anyway if you find the part (2205454132) let me know, I have asked via partfinder but its bank holiday so don't expect responses until middle of the week.

Merc main dealer said they would have it tomorrow and let me know, so I will have to make a decision pretty soon by the looks of it

BTW where is this control unit located, it might help some of the 'part time' dealers who are breaking W220's but don't know where to look for the unit, i'm not sure if its in the 'wing' fuse boxes or which side it would be in, any ideas ? I think it would be passenger side but any confirmation would be useful.

Thanks for the help and comments as usual most helpful :)

The set up is stright forward, you just need to know where the system leaks, most dealers seem to forget this!

Well, got the car back today :D seems fine. hope it stays that way :)

I manged to find a controller unit and convinced the dealer to fit and set up.

I got the part from prestige all parts, for what i thought was a good price (well compared to MB £1K )

I didn't read the reviews here  BUT they did ship me the part, the dealer said it looked brand new, and it seems to have done the job, also came with a 6 months warranty so fingers crossed.

thanks to everyone.
