My 2002 S320CDi had a problem on the autobox. On the open road, after reaching fifth gear, it would not kick down and would not rev above about 2250rpm. Climbing a hill was really hard work. Going down through the gears on the stick did not help. BUT - stop the car, turn the ignition off and then on and everyting was cured until it reached fifth gear again.
Nothing much showed up on the computer and no fault showed on the car's instrument panel. My mechanic changed several vacuum pipes but nothing much changed UNTIL he changed the front suspension units (yes, this is not the most reliable car in the world) and the gearbox fault disappeared!!
We cannot think of a link between the suspension and the gearbox. Anyone got any thoughts?
