W220 creaking noise when turning wheel

I have a 51 plate w220 cdi, when you turn the steering wheel it makes a creeking grinding kind of noise does anyone have any idea what this could be? it happens when stationary or when parking into a space.:confused:

Sounds like a lower ball joint gone dry, cheap and easy fix with the right tools........

Plus one for the joint. You can identify the correct joint by feeling them by hand as the steering is turned, although a stethoscope is preferable

It can be a tierod end. Even easier to repair than the ball joint. It's best to remove the tierod ends for diagnosis if possible, since a creak in the tierod end will be felt in the lower ball joint, and vice versa.

Had a similar creaking noise in my W211 and that was bottom ball joint and upper control arm.
