Hi All

My electric windows more often than not will refuse to close automatically (ie hard press on the button) they stall in the middle, drop a little, then they have to be put up manually (soft press on button till closed) both the passenger and driver sides suffer with this.

Do the channels need to be lubricated? If so, how would one go about that.

Thanks in advance

The cure given by MB is to is to clean and lubricate the channels.

One thing I do when cleaning the windows is drop them all ~1" and wipe off the build up of muck on the glass. I polish them with Autoglym glass polish and wipe out the furry guides.

Thanks lads

Now without sounding like a complete dolt, how do I clean the channels, very very long cotton bud? Coat hanger with soft cloth taped to it?

When I checked on the car to see if there was a problem, that was all it said. I knew that you would ask.

Do not use cotton buds as it will come off and make matters worse.

Leave this for a few hours and I will test out some PTFE.

Cool thanks malcolm.

Ripping the insides outta computers, networks, servers etc, no problem.

Cars, absolutely NO clue and generally have a piece or two left over, that's fine on an old passat or rover 620, I am NOT doing that with something I paid a lot of money for, nearly lost my wits replacing the car kit cradle & cable.

Just tried some PTFE on my Volvo and it makes the channels silky smooth.

It does not dry or leave any marks on the paintwork.

Mine came from Screwfix but any woodworking machine shop would stock it,its made for Router cutters and comes in a spray can.

And you will not have any bits left over :D :D
