I arrived home on Sunday night after a 200 mile trip in the S-Class, opened the boot with the interior switch and my son removed a suitcase. He tried to close the bootlid and it wouldn't shut. I then tried and for some reason it had flicked the catch over and was unable to close. I opened the catch and tried again and the boot closed, but the soft close never kicked in. Then the rear number plate lights would not go out, a warniing on the dash told me to visit workshops as there was a display fault. On further investigation I discovered the driver side footwell was full of water. I removed the seat and carpets. I took around 1 gallon of water from the interior on the car. I dried everything out and cleaned all the terminals on the Sam, also resoldered
a few joints. Unfortunately the Sam decided that water and electrical components don't mix and has given up the ghost. A new part was delivered today at a cost of £246.00 so before I fitted it I went to the stealership to have things checked.
The computer confirmed the Sam was blown and stealership changed over the faulty unit and reset the Sam.
Everything is now working as it should.
The affected items that were not working were
Rear lights
Stop lights
Rear indicators
Reversing lights
Fuel gauge
Rear demister

In future I will be keeping a close check under the carpets to ensure that water is not getting inside the vehicle.

Yes, I am still amazed that MB can make cars where water comes in and does so much damage

I think they design the cars so that when water enters the interior it does as much damage as possible........
The rear Sam sits under the back seat on the floor. When water enters the interior of the car and slops about it soon finds its way to the rear.
My driveway has a bit of an incline and when I reversed in on Sunday night the water sloshed to the rear and this was when the trouble started.....

Regular checks under the carpets from now on......

If you think about it, the SL,SLK,CLK all let water in with expensive results, the 210,211, 220 221 all have bad stampings in the boot that allow water to enter causing extensive damage.

The worst of it is that MB get you to pay for their mistakes

Malcolm,
Why don`t you and one other from this Forum along with say, two knowledgeable members from the other Forum, request a meeting with appropriate representatives from MBUK at which they are made aware of the strength of feeling of all members concerning their products and customer support? You can then report back through the Forum.
Nothing ventured,nothing gained.

Regards
John

This is a hard subject John, MB do not recognize the forums as such, there are two massive forums in the states with far more complaints than are seen on here.
The actual percentage of MB owners that use the forums is very small, maybe the others just pay up and smile.

I have some on goings with them, I may refer to this thread and the other one where the guy got banned, we will see

MBUK already know how their customers feel about the aftercare service they provide. They are also very aware of the rubbish they have been churning out the past 10 years. They are "supposedly" attempting to sort the problems out. I use the word supposedly very loosley as any time I have went to my stealership with a complaint, problem, fault etc....they always wriggle out of repairing it under warranty....

They do not make cars to the high standard of 20 years ago. They do not care about their customers. They are motivated only by profit, unable to look to the needs of the existing customer.

It is high time they woke up and returned some of the loyalty that the customers have been giving to them for more than enough years.

It may well be time to move to another supplier. The competition have some excellent products.

I was invited to the pre-launch of the A8 a few years ago. Flight from Glasgow to Berlin, 5 star hotel, top restaurants, test drive on the Michelin track of the Audi A8, M-B S-500 and 740 BMW...
The competition has passed MB by a long shot. The A8 is a superior car in all aspects in comparison to the S-Class

Time for a move? It could well be....

W 220 Low beam not working.

Hi TELEVISION and every one. That is my first message in your wonderful forum. I have found the forum informative nd indispensible for a mercedes benz owner. My car had the usual issues like CAT rattle and airmatic pump failure which I was able to rectify with the help of your forum. However yesterday I had a warning sign regarding a low beam R check bulb as well as side bulb R check Bulb. I replaced the side one as it was visibly burned, However the low beam one was not visually showing any burn damage. However i replaced it too. Now the side bulb working but not the low beam one. Every other bulb in that side and L side working. No fuses to check as it indicates in the fuse chart ELECTRONIC FUSE. The wiring seems to be in very good condition at the bulb point as well as the main connector behind the headlight connector. Any ideas what can be the fault ?? Thank you:);)
