I have had a few strange issues with the Air Con today, I had lent my S320 CDI 2002 to my boss, dont ask, and when I drove it later he has set the drivers air con to manual, I noticed that the drivers side blowers were fully open and very hot air was coming out. I set the drivers air con to auto and then my feet started to get very hot.

I checked the centre vents and these were correct, set to 20C and felt the right temperature, meanwhile my drivers side is blasting out hot air. I have managed to get things back to normal by setting the drivers side to manual, lowering to LO and then setting back to auto and raising to 20C again.

Now I have the right temp from the vents but the AC OFF button light is always on, pressing it doesnt change the setting. The manual states I need to see MB and from reading the stickys it looks like I may need to regas the air con or the temp sensor has failed.

I did notice while I was driving that when I floored it the heat out of the drivers vents increased to very warm again and the engine temp raised to around 80 from around 60-70. Flooring was maybe 10 seconds from 40-70.

Thing is all was well until my boss borrowed it, but I dount he could have knackered it up that much but then again.

Any ideas on what I can check or am I due a visit to a dealer for a look at the air con?

Cheers

Just as a tip, if the aircon has now stored a fault code of "low gas" it will need clearing before it will work again, people spend money going to halfords etc only to find it dont cure the fault, the fault code has to be cleared after a re-gas!

Is Nuneaton too far from you, it could pay you to go as they will do it on the spot

Thats not too far away, do I just need an indie dealer who has Star? Would this explain the hot air from the vents when the climate control is on, it seems weird that its really hot from the drivers vent, normal in the centre vents and no heat when I turn the climate control off.

OK go to mercland in Nuneaton and ask for Jay, tell him that I, Malcolm on the forum sent you, he has all of the gear to do it all, the systems take about ½ hour to charge

http://www.mercland.com/

Jay is one of nicest people you will ever meet, and good for servicing
