W221 S320 cdi Rear light faults

Hi, I've just purchased a 2009 W221 with just 62000mls.
The nearside brake led part appears dead, is it likely to be a faulty lamp unit that can easily just be replaced off ebay or likely to be a module or wiring fault elsewhere?

its likely to be the LED , you could test it with a multi meter to make sure there is 12v where it should be , source a 2nd hand one ?

Thanks, I wired up the lamp in my garage and the leds lit but extremely dimly, I'm hoping a, replacement unit will sort the prob, otherwise its ££ at the auto electrician..

there are of course the 2006 to 2009 light units with body coloured stripes - then the jazzier facelift ones from 2010 to 2013

I have the earlier ones, they look like normal bulbs but are soldered in place and flicker on screen with the reversing camera like LED's would
