there was a post about 4 months back wanting a self dimming left hand mirror (I think on an E class) and I replied saying they forget the wires the coding and the proper mirror (but of course in Germany they get the features you need - for their drivers side)

then I came across this
which shows the door module on the 221 / 216 is just sitting there - no door trim removal vandalism required - the 221 tweeter comes off a bit differently (open the window unhook the full length bit from the body - outside face and fold inwards) . But the rest is the same and there is no need to touch the door panel at all. You could replace the whole door mirror professionally inside 10 minutes. No damage anywhere

If you replace with a proper mirror glass - off course the two wires that power the dimming feature on a UK car from Pin 1 of the black socket are missing - fit those and it just works - or just buy a whole mirror from germany

and as for this guy fitting the stupidly designed nightmare of an indicator repeater
he's got it all wrong - there's a torx 30 thing to undo and the two halves come apart (but the mirror fold power socket above it is a bugger to get on and even worse to refit - fold back the rubber weather cover to get some pliers on it)

on the left , the door module its fitted in a different location and its just there as you remove that access panel, left most pic is the missing wires you need (alongside the correct mirror glass)

New wires.jpg

the missing 2 wires can go back alongside the other 17 wires on to Pin 1 and 6 of the black plug but getting them in that sheath is not easy, its tight
