Hi you may have already seen my other forum on the knocking

I was wondering if anyone knows a thing or two of how these engines come out and is there any tricks on removing it or if it comes out with the gearbox at the same time, I will link the other forum below so everyone can catch up on what's going on with this engine

Thanks Rhys

Perhaps keep it all in the original thread, that’s way it’s clean and easy to follow.

I've never had a Merc engine out, but, from what I've seen on here, it is preferable to take the engine and gearbox together so that when the overhaul is complete and you reassemble the engine to the gearbox, the lugs that drive the gearbox oil pump can be correctly located. Otherwise, it seems that it is possible to force the 2 units together, breaking the lugs off and ending up with no gears.

Hope this is understandable bit if you meed further explanation, perhaps someone with more practical experience of Mercs will help. (the last engine I stripped was out of a Sunbeam Rapier!)
