Hello all. I've recently purchased a 2017 V250d, it's pretty much perfect for what I want but I have noticed a small niggle that I would like to put to your collective knowledge. During normal operation the windscreen wipers work as expected but when I was travelling on the motorway in heavy rain and spray they switched to the high speed wiping mode. As soon as this happens the drivers side wiper moves too far and hits against the A pillar. I've checked the wiper arm attachment to the spindle and there doesn't seem to be any play and the blade itself is the right length at 28". I don't believe this is unique to my vehicle but I haven't been able to find a solution. It would be nice to get this sorted while it is still under warranty so could anyone offer any suggestion on what could be done to correct it please? Just to confirm, they return to the bottom position correctly and stop about 2" away from the A pillar during intermittent and normal wiping, its just at the high speed wiping.
Thanks in anticipation.
Matt

If the dealer was local I would be straight back but they're 250 miles away. I bought it during lock down and had it delivered. I was hoping someone on here may have had the same problem and could offer a solution.

Does the wiper arm park in the correct position at the bottom of the screen? ... there are often markers in the glass where they should. It would suggest that there is play in various joints within the wiper mechanism, but as the car is only a few years old I'd be surprised if wear is the problem ... ut a small amount of play at the bottom of the arm will make a big difference a the end of a long wiper.

Maybe not an uncommon problem, because I have noticed my wiper doing this on occasion.
It doesn't happen all the time but is plain to hear when it does.
My car was bought new so no danger of the wiper blades being incorrect length. :)

If there's a hidden meaning there I've honestly missed it. :D
I only meant that just because it's a new car doesn't mean that everything is going to be perfect or correct (not that I've ever bought a new car .... or ever likely to) ..... it seems that PDIs are carried out by the new owner. If a dealer thinks he/she can get away with something then it seems that they'll try.

Yes there can be teething problems with new cars, also much more commonly new houses as well.
These problems can extend to a variety of things, but I wouldnt expect to find the wrong size of wiper bades fitted at the factory.
Stranger things have happened though I suppose. :D

P.S. You should try a new car sometime in your life...you might like it.

If its a MB dealer, doesnt matter where you take it as they claim back from MBUK

All the replacements show as being 28" {700mm). I know that's not technically the same but I can't find any other alternatives that come up as being suitable. I have noticed I could lower the parked position by about 15mm so might give that a try first. Hopefully it wouldn't foul the passenger side with that small adjustment.

Is it only the top tip of the wiper that hits..?

Yes, but it hits pretty hard.
Thanks.
Without seeing the contour of the windscreen, I better not suggest bending the wiper arm a wee bit
What does a V250d AMG look like, in case I see one in a car park.?
