Hi, I have recently leased a Mercedes C180 Estate for 3 years and I absolutely love the car.
It comes with the standard radio/Cd player and I'm looking to upgrade to a built in satnav/Ipod player (am driving to Italy for my holidays this year so need a decent Satnav and music player).
The sales rep at Mercedes said that they can fit an Ipod adaptor for £385 but when I mentioned that I might look elsewhere he began to tell me that if it wasn't fitted by Merecedes it would invalidate the warranty on the car should anything go wrong with the car.
Its now got me thinking, was he just trying to get more money out of me? Is the warranty really that essential? Its not like I would fit the system, I don't see what could go wrong as long as someone decent installs it, or am I better off just buying a Tomtom and sacrificing the music for radio?
One last thing, if I did have the Satnav installed, seeing as the car is leased, would it be quite easy to take the Satnav out?
Thank you in advance for your help
Dan

Any MB thing, retro fitted cannot invalidate anything.

Welcome to the forum, as there is no mention anywhere that these things could do that, that is fine, I do not know what the rules are with a lease car

I can't see why an MB Satnav would invalidate the warranty either. They need to know to look for one thing and there is no reason they wouldn't just assume it was a factory install.
Fitting a Merc ipod interface is almost a DIY task anyway afaik.Pick one up off ebay and get a merc indie to fit it - or just tell the sevice manager what you've been quoted and he'll probably match it.

or be a bit wiggy

and use a portable sat nav like a tom-tom or such like. No hard-wiring, and you can take it walkabout with you.

Warranty will remain intact if genuine MB parts used throughout, doesn't matter who fits them.

Dealers will know if car has had COMAND of iPod etc retro-fitted because the datacard will not show them. If the dealers do the work they would (should) update the datacard via FDOK (?), some indies can do this as well.

As for removing again, simple as installing but why bother unless you get another compatable MB
