This lovely warm weather has certainly improved my mpg. Easily getting high 40's on my 30mile commute. Even got mid 50's on a recent M40/M25 run to the airport! Roll on the summer:p :p

Dunno, was wondering that myself. mpg dropped noticably over winter, up again now. Engine loosening up nicely too, just past 30K on the clock, service B due in 1200mls

Any ideas on the reason for improved mpg? (but don't p*ss on my parade, I'm enjoying the economy!!)

Still only ~5deg C at 6am. Had to scrap ice this morning! :-?

Never have to scrape off ice where I live in the last 10 years, you are not that far away from me

Winter diesel has a lower calorific value due to it being stuffed with anti-gelling additives.

Summer diesel doesn't have these so is more 'energetic', so you need to burn less to produce the same power.

fair do's hibbo but
often i can only scrape high 40's in the cold damp early morning air, and then low to mid 50's in the heat of the day.
all on the same tank of fuel

Down here it is 11.5 c at 4.55 am, any difference then must be done with the air intake sensor, as the engines reach there optimum temperature as quickly as possible.

What I will do in the next few days is to put a variable pot in series with the Air sensor as I do fell that my SL could be made to run weaker, Maybe I can use my spare blank switch for that

T212 facelift, 2013. A few toys including pan roof, 19" rims, Harmon Kardon, nappa, privacy glass.
But as the summer gets warmer and the aircon starts working (harder), I suspectyou will start to see a reduction of about 8%'ish.

I have never seen a reduction in mpg when using the aircon, on this car or my previous car. Did extensive trials on the Alhambra and nothing, did limited trials last summer on the C270 and no difference. Hence I leave the aircon on always.

I would go along with this as well, and I run mine with the top down.

Overall average = 41.7mpg @ 37.5mph

Is that reasonable? (well I'm happy with it!)

OK, so, I'm still happy with it.....Well, not quite as happy as I was before reading your stats :-?

Very good hmang, I reckon you have a very light right foot! :p ;)
