So my car is just coming up to the 3 year mark so I'm looking at Extended Warranties. The two current considerations are Mercedes own extended warranty at £804 for two years, or Motoreasy at £1250 for two years. The Motoreasy one potentially covers more items, but does anyone have real world experience of either? I know I also have the option of just sticking the money in the bank and hoping, but at the moment, I'm more inclined to the Warranty option.

TIA,
Bill

I'd go with Mercedes - in my experience it's the only one worth having - the aftermarket ones are in the business of making money and they don't do that by paying out on claims...

My sister was royally shafted on a Discovery by one of the aftermarket policies despite a full Land Rover service history.

I favour Mercedes own and from my experience it is cheaper to buy just before the 3 year new car warranty expires, if you wait say a week or two after expiration it shoots up quite a bit more.

£804 sounds quite reasonable to me for 2 years as you cannot get much done at main dealership at £402 per year.

My son has just sold his W213 on a 16 plate and he extended the warranty with MB until he sold it last month. In my opinion MB really looked after him during that time so yes as BC that’s what I would opt for.

I investigated this recently and didn't take out a policy because of the number of exclusions.
For example, a lot of the electrical items aren't covered by any of the policies I looked at, and the LED headlamps on my car are well into 4 figures cost wise.

Thanks all, yes I think the MB one looks the best option. As Headhurts says, I'll purchase before mine expires to get continuous cover. Like Curious, there are exclusions, headlamps being the main one, howeve looking round, the Multibeam units have come down a lot in price and can now be purchased for under £1,000 compared to £2,500 a few years ago. (And they should last a long time, and if they don't I'll chase MB for a good will payment )

I bought an AA policy on my S class about 5 years ago and they paid out twice with no hassle

The engine in the 400d is the IL6 OM656 which can have problems with the combined oil/vacuum pump leaking, this is situated in the sump of the engine and requires engine out to remedy, plus any problems with EU6 emissions systems going forward. I think you‘ve made a wise decision and certainly what I would have done.

I bought mine from Mercedes as the car reached three years and will probably renew this October when it gets to its fifth birthday, Haven’t needed to claim on it - yet!

Pay the premium into a savings account with overdraft facility. If nothing goes wrong you have the £££ not the warranty outfit.
If something does go wrong you can choose time and place to get it fixed.
