Hello everyone. I'm a Brit living in Qatar and quite by accident I've ended up with a 2009 Merc ML63 AMG. It was staggeringly cheap (equivalent of 3,000 of your Great British pounds) though, unsurprisingly, she's not without her issues. I think I might be posting on here a lot asking for advice. I've already had to fit a new Intelligent Servo Module as she got stuck in Park and refused to even crank and no amount of software wizardry could get her to release so she had a trip on the back of a truck and is happily running again now though I'm well aware of the potentially catastrophic expenses that may await me further down the line. But for now I'm enjoying the power and petrol at 40p a litre.

Thank you 00slk. Though just wait until something else goes pop, or I need to replace the tyres, and then you'll feel a lot better.

Welcome, 40p a litre - that qualifies for an immediate ban! :)
I was talking to a guy with a Saudi registered Mk10 Jag - he said it cost him more to fill the radiator than the fuel tank (this was late 80's)

When I first came here in 2013 petrol was the equivalent of 15p /litre. Massively subsidised though slightly less so now. But still cheap enough not to get too bent out of shape about the fuel consumption of a galloping V8.

And probably the beer too. They brought in a "sin tax" a couple of years back that effectively doubled the price of a pint.

I lived in Qatar (Dukhan) 1976-79, and as "senior staff" I had access to the company off licence (no cash purchases, all done through payroll, and a monthly limit which IIRC was £100pm - you could get an awful lot for that!). The import duty on alcohol was daft as it was determined by the volume of the container, not by the alcohol content, so cans of beer were relativly expensive but bottles of spirits were ridiculously cheap - IIRC a litre of gin, bacardi etc was about £1.50 (30 bob in old parlance!). Pouring something like a G&T was 1/2 pint glass, lots of ice, fill glass to about 1" below rim, top up with tonic. Home on leave I poured a neighbour a couple of bacardi cokes (wife had the same) with similar measures, next day she came after me loaded for bear, said I'd slipped her a Mickey Finn! Wife had exactly the same drinks and was fine. To this day I'm still accused of being heavy handed mixing drinks (although dear daughter loves one of Dad's G&T's or BC's)!!
