Hello David, we have had this one before, have you done a search, I am sure the fault is an odd one. If no luck I will look it up.

No joy with the search

BUT i decided this could not be a big problem to fix - being an Ex RR MV Technician he he. Removed the tank and the hoses and the pumps and the three electrical connections windscreen pump headlamp pump and contents gauge.

Removed pumps from tank and identified which pump connector was windscreen and which was headlamp tested both pumps on the windscreen connector after cleaning all contacts and wow both pumps now functioning. Tank was leaking at the grommets where the pumps fit into the tank so got two new grommets from MB Hamilton they were 50p each he he. Fitted it all back together swaping pumps so that the old windscreen pump is now the headlamp one and vice versa so that the little used pump will now be doing most of the work and vice versa

BIG repair not - was so pleased i gave the car a wash and then a polish once the sun had gone away  :D

At least you didn't have to use much precious tap water to rinse it off before you "polished" it today.

How much does all that knowledge cost? I'd love to be capable of that, gimme a computer yes, no problem, gimme a car, useless (though proud of figuring out where the nokia head unit was and replacing the car kit).

Educate us with pics and instructions.

well if

i had thought of doing a photo journal repair bit i would have taken lots of pictures. Sadly i did not even though i have quite a few cameras laying about......Really it was easy peasy - the tank is held in with one plastic thumbscrewnut and the tank has a spigot on the botom that fits into a rubber mount on a bracket on the body - so remove the thumbscrewnut pull stud out of plastic arm and then pull upwards on tank - tank will come out a few inches - remove electrical connections (three) and with a pair of pliers squeeze the clip on the hose on the pump and slide it down the hose about an inch - carefully pull hose off of the pump - do this twice to both pumps - tank will now come out of car - drain tank into bucket and pull pumps upwards out of tank - you will now have a bare tank - get new pump mount washers 50p each at the MB dealer and remove old ones reverse all of that above and bobs your uncle.

I have fixed the same grommet problem on two cars successfully using a small amount of silicone sealant. Remove grommet carefully as they tend to tear, ensure they are dry, and then apply silicone and replace. No more probs.
