Having restored many classic Ferrari engines - the most reliable were the engines with a triplex timing chain - noisey I know compared to the rubber cambelts, but NEVER failed - even when replaced with the duplex chain - extremely reliable.

Like all timing chains / belts as long as they are adjusted / checked they should last the service intervals. Never trust the "self adjusting systems" - they are so prone to not adjusting. One of the biggest failures in the timing chain system is believe it or no the "slippers" witin the timing chain covers, when they wear the automatic adjustment can fail!
