Hi,
I have just bought a 2000 SLK 320 and noticed that when it rains the water from the front of the bonnet finds its way onto the tray under the engine.
There is no problem with the rear drains only at the front. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks for you comments. The water finds its way somehow past the headlights and onto the tray, i assume via some form of drainage channels. I have come to this conclusion by testing with a watering can but can not just see where the water finally comes out on to the tray. I will probably take the easy way out and drill the tray to let the water run out.

Thanks

That is a good idea, and will do no harm

Hello, i noticed the same thing on my 2001 SLK320, after it`s rained there is a lot of water on the undertray ! I was also thinking of drilling holes as well, just have not had time to do it yet ! If you do yours could you please let me know how it works out ? Many thanks in advance, regards Damian.:)

The W210 has a corrosion problem with the front cross member. The under engine tray holds water. as far as I know there is a modification with some washers to reduce this. However I would drill the tray to let it drain.

I fitted washers to mine and drilled the tray at the lowest points to stop the rot, well some of it!

Washers go between tray and crossmember so the xmember doesnt sit in a puddle of water.

Either use stainless or pretty certain was a mb mod kit with plastic washers.
