Last October I had major electrical problems caused by "the wrong type of rain"

Apparently my water intake box could not cope with such a heavy downpour, which caused water to enter the electrical harnesses and fail/ error show up the BAS.ABS ESP, BATTERY, POWER STEERING, ETC.., basically the car died on me, fortunately I was near home and not doing a TON down the M77

This cost me about £500 to have the car dried out etc.(in the passenger footwell area).
Now I did ask the manager if the emergency drain had been installed on the water intake box, as this was a recall in 2002 ish. Yes he replied , it was just that the rain was too heavy  and "oh yes, a grommet was missing"

I accepted this as a one off event that the flagship model could not cope with:rolleyes:

Now that I have managed to get the WIS disc installed on my PC I have discovered by vewing the attached diagrams,( 2 is the reed valve {second image}, and 5 is the emergency drain valve {third image) that the emergency drain was not installed!

Needles to say I shall be paying them a visit!

The reed valve has had a reed cut off( there's 5 in total) so I guess this is there preferred option, but this only allows large foreign objects like leaves atc to enter the drain and really block it up.

Still as they say too much knowledge is a dangerous thing............

watch this space.......

ps I apologise if this is in the wrong section, I couldnt find an angry section....

pps DC UK have been informed too ..

Dear sir/madam

Can you confirm that the emergency drain valve has been installed on my air/water duct under the recall ?

I asked this before and the answer was yes, however now that I know what it should look like when installed (see image)
I have discovered it has not been installed.

Update..............

Phone call from MB dealer-Manager,... nice guy, very helpful,.....bring the car in please.

I sent him the part number of the drain valve and pics of the missing item and the cost-40p ! He was most appreciative.

I took the car in , and was thanked for the above info.
was given a coffee and played with the new C Class (very nice !)

The senior tech guy looked at the car and confirmed my findings.

Bottom line , it was another dodgy local MB dealer who didnt do the emergency recall.

Anyway they are picking my car up next week from my home, doing the job and bringing it back to me .

How do I feel.... well if I had been doing 70mph with family onboard, we could have been killed. All for £0.40p .

My advice....dont trust any of them, your life may depend on it.

Good work, the sad thing is that there are some good ones out there, but how do you work out who they are, and sadly there are not that many around like you who can check it out, once again we have more than one thread on a similar nature

i wonder whose smart idea it was to have this drain pointing towards the glowplug relayand wiring as on my 220 2002.

It should be located here.........(see pic)

You have to remove the box to do it properly.

If its in the wrong place I would have them replace the whole box and do it right.

cheers

Or an electronic box (not water proofed) for the fan behind the front bumper grill so that when it fills with water the engine stops on a 210 and on a 202 the fans will not stop, On the 220 rear light water runs through the cables and messes up the rear SAM. 170, water runs down a cable into the PSE pump or 202 water goes into the front SAM from a car wash. there are loads more courtesy of MB design team

Is it me, or have the newer models lost some quality in the design stages over the early 90's and 80's models?

I only ask as this thread appears to be telling me exactly that, and at my daughters party this Sunday a chap I know who runs (ran) a 16 car chauffer business, has recently swapped from MB to Audi...... Lots of issues on everything from A Class to S Class, and dealers who just do not give a darn.

Today I received a letter from MB local dealer offering my next scheduled service free of charge!
I have always had excellent dealings with them, and even although it wasn't their fault (another dealer) I think this is an excellent advert for MB and a good result for me.
