Hi & Welcome,
Can you take it apart? if so it maybe worth cleaning it inside with electrical contact cleaner. It may be beyond repair as PCB's don't react well to water and electrickery at the same time. You should go through every conector and fuse you think got wet and and clean them up.

Big problem here is that the 12v was being fed in, and electricity see's water as a dead short, oil does not have that effect. You cant dry it over night as the water will sit between the pins of the IC's. Do as Bobcat says and take it apart and dry it with a hair drier. if you are not in a hurry, you can post it to me and I will see how bad it is FOC.

What car have you got ?

I cannot imagine the ECU controls the horn etc.

You need to check the fuse box first thing and take each fuse out individually and dry and clean the contact areas of each fuse and it's holder.

I think that Ianc means the multi function relay box, often known as N10

My car is a C220 cdi

I have still not got to the bottom of the problem - there was diffinately water in this 'unit' - but it is now dry - and the consequence is these various things don;t work any more. The part number, as I have said is 0225455332 and it does also say [SAM] after it (whatever that means). If anyone has any more ideas before I commit to £200 or so for a new one - then please help - I have appreciated the responses so far - thanks

Ian, sorry to say this but the SAM is not going to fix your windscreen wipers and horn. Your multi function relay sits in the fuse/ module box.

SAM stands for Signal Aquasition Module.
