My Mercedes P Reg C180 has begun to develop a wet path on the inside of the driver door where the map compartment is located.

Has anyone else had this problem, any idea where its coming from and how to resolve it.

I'm guessing its coming through the window seal but any pointers would be helpful.

I think that you must take the door lining off to see where it is coming from, thats the last thing you need, water coming in, there should be a plastic seal over the door

Hi Malcolm

How do Mercedes keep water out of the door cavity, that is, if they do? Are the window seals the first and only line of defense against water ingress or is there, as your previous answer implies, a second barrier to water, i.e. the plastic seal 'over' the door?

You don't often encounter Mercedes with rusty door bottoms so I wondered if it was a case of providing adequate drainage in the door bottoms or whether there was more to it?

I can't tell you whether Mercedes have anything special in this respect, but I doubt it. And you'd be surprised at how much water flows past a typical window seal too.

The normal method to stop water ingress into the passenger compartment is that a polythene membrane is fixed and sealed over the door, directly behind the door card. Any punctures in this membrane will result in water ingress into the passenger compartment. Other than deterioration through age, one typical cause of this is a clueless ICE fitter who just cuts holes in the membrane when they fit additional or larger than standard speakers in the door.

The door hasn't been "mucked about with" and is intact.

Does anyone know of any picture by picture examples showing the removal of a C180 drivers door panel ?

Its not a job I want to do but with all this rain, it has to be done!

There should be a drain hole at the bottom of the door, check it isn't blocked.

Parrot; checking the front drain hole, there seems to be a white plastic thing obstructing the opening, whereas the rear hole is completely clear.

Malcolm; Thanks for the video link.

Thanks for the info guys, I really appreciate it. My confidence to tackle the job is much better.......and now its starting to rain!!!!
