I have a '98 C180 Classic which tends to leak on the passenger side into the dash board and onto the floor in heavy rain. I contacted Mercedes and they said this is due to leaves gettings lodged in the engine drain. Has anybody else had this problem or is it unique?

Also this now appears to have fused the heater does anybody know how to fix this?

All ideas would be much appreciated.

Dear Simon,
When I first bought my E class estate, it had this same problem of blocked drain channels, although I never got to the stage of fusing the heater. I cleared leaf debris from the drains in the corners under the bonnet, and also had to pull some leaves from the drains in the bottom of the wheel arch in front of the front doors. This did the trick, and I have never had a problem since.
Regards
John

leak in passenger footwell

Yes this is quite common you need to clear the heater box drian on a regular basis if you ignor the water not only will it rot the carpet but you will soon need to rplace your heater fan and regulator. lift the bonnet and go to the near side a pillar (between front wing and door) look into heater box there is probably water in the bottom clear drain with slim piece of wood or similar
