After the dreadful rain this afternoon, I discovered a large puddle of water in the passenger (nearside) footwell of my W202. This happened a couple of weeks ago after another bad rainstorm but hasn't happened during every rain shower, just the two times of very heavy rain.

I wasn't sure whether there was a leak in the windscreen seal or if the heater system was leaking, but having used the heater at various times recently, I am confident that this isn't the cause of the problem.

I have just done a search of the forum for other threads of a similar nature and one suggests that the scuttle drain holes may be blocked with leaves. This could be the reason as I do get a lot of tree debris where I park the car but where on earth are the scuttle drains?

I will also check the sunroof drain holes as also suggested. Any other ideas as to the cause or are these two locations likely to be the answer?

Had a similar problem with my CLK and was advised as follows:

Open bonnet fully (catches on the hinges both sides). Stand by the NSF hinge & look down below the hinge at the black plastic bulkhead trim which runs along the bottom of the screen. If you feel down in the corner nearest to you, you should be able to feel a flap. Open it & clean it out with your fingers...Yuk! Pour some water down the vents by the wiper afterwards to flush it out.

This was for a '99 CLK but hopefully will get you close!

The drying out is the real bitch!

Take of the air intake grill in front of the screen under the bonnet, remove any filters. There are drain holes in the bottom that need clearing out
