I had a serious water leak inside the passenger footwell of my SLK after a bout of heavy rain and was worried about the pending financial shafting my local Merc dealer was going to inflict upon me. Taking matters into my own hands I decided to investigate. I found that the water drainage holes under the windscreen on the passenger side had blocked up with leaves. Upshot was water p*****g into car threatening to ruin car heater motor and rust up the wiring loom. major dragsville.....Solution:
Open bonnet, shove small vacuum cleaner nozzle into tiny gap between bonnet strut and drainage holes, suck away until all leaves gone. Next, undo panel in footwell, remove pollen filter and fan housing (easy even for a car maintenance sea cucumber like me) apply loads of loo roll to soak up water. Hopefully filters ok then re-assemble and voila! No leaks, fan and filter saved, more importantly £110 worth of Merc robberyfest money safely tucked away in your wallet, enough to splash out on some new underwear for your missus!! (See even self maintenace has good side effects)
Hope it helps
