when i'm parking/pulling away i sometimes hear what sounds like water trickling inside the car somewhere. its not fuel in the tank cus its too loud & doesn't sound like that. is there any known water traps on these cars i could check ? i've checked each door but nothing. i was wondering if the sills have drain holes that can block up ? my car is a c250td estate. thanks shaun

Hi,
It could be the catalytic converter. Sometimes under accelaration they can make a "tinkling sound". If it is, don't worry it's normal.

thanks for replies, i do have a sunroof - i've opened it & checked the gulley is draining off ok - it is. its not the cat - def water trickling sound. i've checked spare wheel well etc in luggage area but bone dry. i'm gonna check sills to see if they have drain holes that are blocked - some cars have the sunroof drain tubes going into the sills !! & i have a feeling thats what it might be.

maybe the water drains within the sills are bloked and water is in the stills, check under the car for the drains at the front and rear of the sills and clean them out with a small screw driver or simular.

I think it may be the sound of the coolant running through the heater matrix / ac system. My old Scooby did it too, but was cured after a re-gas etc. It may also be air in the coolant which is not so good because that indicates head gasket probs.

Only one I've ever heard of is dirt can collect in the ventilation system drains - can flood cabin with rain and ruin wiring loom. :-(

Does this only happen when you stop the car, if so, the air con can make noises as the system reverts back from liquid to gas.

found it ! both sills full of water. i pulled out the rubber drains at each end of the sills and the water poured out along with rotted leaves etc. i've made the holes in the grommets larger so hopefully it won't happen again. thanks everyone, shaun
