Hi,

While giving my T124 a good clean inside the other day I found that underneath the fitted foam carpet on the drivers side was soapy water. There was also a little wet by the rear left seat bolts by the floor. This must have been there from a week before when I washed the car especially concentrating on the roof. The passenger well was dry as a bone

Is this likely to have come via the sunroof and if so how can I sort this out?

Thanks Toby.

Check that your sunroof aperture drains are not blocked. The configuration of the sunroof means it is impossible to completely seal by mechanical means, therefore the aperture is normally fitted with drains, one in each forward corner, they can become blocked over time and therefore when it rains heavy or you wash the car the water that gets thro the seal will build up rather than drain away. As there is only a small lip around the inside aperture, water can then overflow into the cabin.
I have used a "sany snake" in the past to clear drain channels, couple of quid from B & Q.

Hi all

Just taken the carpets out of mine, along with enough water to accommodate several large pike....

There has been a leak for several years on mine, via somewhere, not the sunroof, because I've checked the sunroof drains nd they work. It pours out of the trim at the top of the A pillars. Didn't think it would be that bad to fill the footwells though, and presumably if the heater matrix is involved, the coolant level would be dropping ?

I've just cleared out the crap under the seals along the roof trim strips and sealed these up with silicone.

I'll post back after it rains next....

Its the air intake box that fills with water, not a matrix problem, just remove the grill in front of the screen

ah harr.. that might be that bit I opened up the other week and unblocked the matter therein.

In forests... bear with me folks.... leaves and stuff decompose over the years to form humus (not the chick pea stuff); an important component of soil. A bit of clay and sand and the black damp crud I removed would be ideal loam for growing spuds in.

Seemed to be two channels disappearing downward under the middle vent cover, one had a grommet over it, the other on the drivers side, was open down into a tube. Will try pouring water down now its cleared up a bit.

Do you mean at the bottom?

The sunroof drains exit at the bottom of the pillars, I believe. You should find a rubber oneway valve type grommet. Clear this to ensure that all is well. If it really does pour out of the trim at the TOP of the A pillars then the sunroof drains are blocked.

Just behind the front wheels near the jacking points are the rubber grommets as described. They become blocked with leaves and crud etc. Easy to clear.
