As the thread title, really.

Best I can come up with is:
WDB = Daimler Benz
WDC = Daimler Chrysler

but the codes seem to be both used on W203's with no obvious logic to age or model.

Anyone know?

I wondered if that was it.
So all recent saloons should be WDC, and estates should be WDB (which mine is)?
Although there is a separate letter in the VIN for the factory - the 11th digit in the VIN. But there is some duplication of letters, the same letter being used for different factories.

These letters start the VIN number, if you do a check on the Russian Site you will get the answer.

ok, well that's confusing. It says:

"WDC M-CLASS EUROPE/203/G-WAGON USA"

Mine is a WDC203 and it is a C-Class so those valuse don't add up. I think I'll stick with the Germany/South Africa suggestion

Are you sure it's not an M-Class and the previous owner just changed the boot badge :confused: It could explain some of the issues.:D :p :D :p

Or possibly several different Mercs welded together. I hope not because it may overturn like an old A-Class, or pull to the left like a C-Class, or generally fall to pieces like an M-class, or have the break disks crack like an SL, or.........

But then if you had a pre 2001 E class, it would all rust away and problem solved:(

It does make sense because 203 denotes c-class. I'm pretty sure they are SA built. The start of the chassis number basically denotes the plant it was built at thats all.

The saloons are built in SA and Estates in Germany.

I mentioned earlier that the 11th digit in the VIN gives the build plant, but there seems to be some duplication of letters used, which isn't ideal.
