My vito seems to be making a loud squeaking noise while driving. When I apply the brakes, the noise stops completely.
If I coast down a hill and lightly apply the brake pedal, there is no noise. But if no resistant, the noise can continue some times.
While driving long distances, the noise will eventually fade too.

Sounds like the pads are rubbing on the disc when the pads are not pressed (retracted). Our ford does this. Probably a small lip has formed around the disc and this rides against the pads. You might try removing the lip with an angle grinder if its bad just buy new pads and/or discs.

I suspect that new pads and discs would 90% cure the problem. I can fix our Ford for a few months and then it comes back!

Your Vito brakes will be the same design as those on my Viano. They are simple and robust to work on.

Squeaking brakes can be caused by a sticking calliper piston so you should check these are all free. The cause can also be if the pads are sticking in the holders so a good clean up of the places they mount and appropriate heat proof grease applied may resolve it. Some non-OE pads seem prone to squeaking and a dab of the correct grease on the rear can help damp their sound.

On my Viano I had the pads out to do all the above but a noise remained... from the rear. It turned out the sliding pins on the rear brakes had been lubricated but with a grease that had caused the pin rubber collars (one pin each side has this) to swell and cause sluggish movement. I bought a new pin set with new rubbers and the correct heat proof grease that is safe with rubber to lubricate them and all has been fine since.
