Hello all, can anyone identify this thing under the back seat, it seems to be home wired , two wires dissapearing under the carpet and the other wire connected to a brown wire which runs to the vac unit under the seat. Having a weird problem with the locking system, when you press the unlock button on the fob the boot pops open, this will also happen when unlocking the drivers door from the inside or by pressing the unlock button on the dash, all a bit annoying really. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks in advance
Mike

Though it is an MB pump it does not look like the correct one for the car, and the wires have been changed that go to it.

My links not working at present I will post back

What you have in your hand is an actuator from a door with a key lock.
It should not normaly be under the seat!
The pump should be in a foam block with wires and a yellow tube connected to it.
The pump sucks the locks on and blows the locks off. All the actuators are connected to the yellow pipe and all the switches that signal lock/unlock go to the pump.
Methinks some body has been attempting to change the way that the fob opens the car, why I cant even guess.
It would be prudent to return the system to its original wiring, you will need a wiring diagram to achive that.

Inside the pump there are pressure switches that tell the pump to stop when sufficeint pressure or vacuum exists in the pipes and a timer to switch off the pump if there is a leak.
This is the Hella locking system used on some Audi cars as well as Mercs.

here are two pics of a pump

the belows receive the suck or blow air from the pump, the belows operate switches and on to relays, in the event of a leak the timer IC on the right of the pic 1 turns the pump off after 15 sec

Thanks guys, so am I right in thinking each actuatior on each door is wired and they all share a common vac pump under the seat? This is how the fob can control the drivers door, all doors and the boot seperately. If I disconnect the wiring from the boot actuator this should stop the boot poping open in public when I do not want it too causing me to stroll over and pretend to look for something in there before sitting in to the car.?
Can the boot be opened manually if I disconect the wiring or will I have to use the metal key?
Thanks again
Mike

have you verified if the boot lock is actually working properly,

that vacuum pump (as far as I know) just controls locking/opening of the locks on the doors and the boot and petrol cap cover,

in an unlocked state you should be able to open any door and the boot lid and the petrol cap cover, in a locked state, the opposite.

when you press your key fob or open your front door it sounds like the vacuum is doing the right thing (opening the locks) but for some reason your boot lid lock actually lets the boot lid open in addition to unlocking it.

that's the bit i don't understand, which is why i'd say take a wee look at the boot lid lock assembly

ie: on my car, when i want to open the boot i first unlock the car via the key fob (the vacuum opens all locks) then i have to manually press in the button on my boot to OPEN the boot lid. Perhaps your design is different to mine, if so apologies.
cheers

Most of the locking faults have been in the boot of late. If you have a leak, the pump will run for approx 15-20 sec before the timer cuts in, when there is no leak the pump on runs for a couple of sec as it cuts on the inbuilt switch

Yes, I must have a poke around the boot, this car has only done about 10miles since I bought it 6 months ago and has been sat idle since, havent had time to go through it fully, I know some plonker has been at the leckys as there was a whole bunch of fuses that were unable to be removed as he reassembled the fuse box assways, easily rectified with a bit of head scratching, nothing worse than some idiot pretending to know how to fix these mercs and end up making things worse, like mine. I dont claim to be an expert but anything I take apart goes back as it was.
Must have a listen to the vac pump, but woud a leak make the boot pop?.
Had a 99 CLK which I think would open the boot by the first press of the boot funtion on the fob without unlocking the doors.
Cheers guys

Reminds me of when I took my 123 280TE to Sweden that I bought the day before I moved there,. You were supposed to have owned it for 1 year. In Sweden they checked it all out, and let me leave, I ran down the stairs and jumped into the car, the only snag was the steering wheel was on the other side, and this guy is looking down on me, could not climb across the console , so I opened the glove box, put all of the papers away, got out, ran around to the other side and drove away

A 'lady' I work with sometimes drives in in her husband's LHD mk2 Golf G60 (4x4!), she ALWAYS gets in the wrong side on her way home and tries to run quickly round so no-one notices. Just makes it worse! :D
