Morning ladies and gents,
I went on the dark side and now I have a dec 2018 Bmw G11 740 M Performance at 12600 miles with £14k of options, initial price £86456 Reasons are 4x4, lower mpg/insurance/tax, faster and merino leather all around, service pack included up to 60k, extended warranty, an extra set of 19' alloys and so on. Please don't kill me for this. I still have my E350 which is now my daily drive.
I compared S350/400 with this G11 and the difference is there. The S is a different planet , a different feel and YES I absolutely love it but higher running costs. S500 2019 is on my list for spring 2020 but I have a house coming in January.
My other half drives an A class 2018 which is not bad at all.

Just reading the thread title - DISGUSTING....

BMWs like Mercs depreciate hugely and you get alot of car for your money.

The OP hasnt lost his marbles as he knows the s class is on another planet.

I see very little distinction between the two marques nowadays other than as you say at the top end S/SL models. I own both marques and look at them on a par quality wise and would buy both again

The think I repeatedly find about BMWs is how small they are inside compared to outside. My stepson had a 740d convertible and for such a large car it's got sod all room inside!

Fully agree with you re depreciation but you do get this with any car especially large cars. I am sorry if the title is a bit harsh and I know the differences between the two. Thought I'd give 7 a go. I do miss the elegance, the feel and the calm atmosphere in the S no wonder they call it ' the best or nothing'. Yes costs are there for a reason but like everyone else I want to keep them low. The cost difference is quite a lot and I just couldn't get any S with included services, extended warranty and few extra perks. I can outlay the perks I got with the 7. The Mb Sales rep wasn't even interested in offering anything not even a £500 discount.

Ooh the shame......:(:(:(

Update:
I know and I am sorry.
I like the 7th but there is nothing like an S. These are 2 worlds apart. The good thing about 7 is that you can drive it as a 5. I would not have another 7. A8 should not be compared with S. I drove a 55 edition and I felt like I was skidding all the time, noisy, plasticky and it gave the cheap chinese look. Nope hell no never ever.
Done so far 8700miles so all good. With wife working from home until the end of the planet I will have few options: E53, GLE450 or the best or nothing S450.
Keep you posted.

Enjoy.

My son drives an E53 AMG Coupé (2019) and is very happy with it.

To be fair this is the case for virtually every 2+2 out there.

Look at something like an XK. Big car, bigger than most saloons out there. Look at that rear legroom and seat shape!

Looking at the photo I was actually wondering if there was something wrong with those seats before I read your post.
That surely cannot be comfortable for anybody(presumably only a child) in the back.

Our first SL had a back seat not much bigger than that, no for big people but my 2 small boys thought it cool to sit on the half seats :D

The 'new' 8 series has smaller rear seats than my i8 (but I suppose it has a boot!), but others have said it's a 2+2, doubt they are ever used!
