Client turned up in an X Class. I so wanted to like it and even had it as a possible replacement for the company's Amarok, but I honestly can say I was very disappointed. It looks far too much like what it is (a Navara), the "Turbo" badge looks straight out of Halfords, the interior looks basic and the selector stick in the centre looks like something from a 1970's Toyota. Hopefully, it's a revelation to drive :)

Am I missing something?

Unfortunately I don't believe you are :( a very cheap way of getting a 4x4 pick up into the model line up. Not much other than a bit of badging (and that's dodgy)

Maybe we will see a radical upgrade soon as indeed we saw with the new A Class, the first of the new model didn't shape up to much but the upgrade sure did :). Like you say it would seem it was a cheap way to get into the 4x4 pick up model line up but it will have given them a basis on which to develop upon :)

All it needs is HMRC to move the goalposts again on the tax benefits of owning such a vehicle and it will soon separate the wheat from the chaff amongst the manufacturers after the initial depreciation in intrinsic value, I wonder how eager MB will be to stay in that particular market sector if that were to happen?

Be even better if there was a real need for them.

In reality is there ever any real need for them?
I looked at one before I joined here, it was the Nissan Navara, liked the idea of it carrying camping equipment and bikes etc. But when I looked at the space, it was dreadful, that with the high tax, poor millage I lost interest. Don't get me wrong, if money was no object I would have one of the new Ford's just for a laugh.

I do have a mate with a Dodge 3500, 7.2 litre job which is nuts, but at least it has usable space inside!

When all is said and done there is a strengthening market place for them and MB need to be in there with a marketable product. :)
Undoubtedly so in that sense, they don’t miss many tricks for sure :)

You're right, our friends bought a new Hilux, this is mainly for the commute from the Forest of Dean to the train station :). They do get some lose gravel where they live.

They did a while ago, putting a pick up through a business / company car needs to be proved you actually need one i.e you use it as intended, if you put a "truchman" style top on it instantly becomes a car and attracts tax as such

So glad I came out of the company car scheme, with the further drop in what cars we could have, it was dismal.

Likewise although it puts all the risk on me which I'm not that keen on. MY W213 was company as I was doing enough miles (albeit all private) to make it worthwhile having a company car.

Looking at about 22K miles this year which is more than I expected to be putting on my SLK but it's loving it and it's a nice place to be sat.:D:):p
