Looking at E55 AMGs at the moment (2002-). Huge range of second hand prices and enormous differences in spec. What constitutes high and low spec with these cars and what are the must have options?
Good question! IMHO unless you are planning to resell the car quickly, I would look for the options that you really want. Many, I am sure, will tell you that resale value depends on optional equipment, but really Comand is the only essential.
In the secondhand market, a good deal at purchase time, because of a lower spec car, will be probably be repeated at selling time with a lower selling/trade in price. You get what you pay for.
At the end of the day a 55 AMG will be more desireable and hopefully easier to sell than a 500 regardless of spec.
As Malcolm has said, the comfort seats are a big plus, (heated and vented)regretably I dont have the ventilated seats, joys of buying a second hand car! got to look long and hard usually to find a car with all your requirements. I personally rate Harmon Kardon, not sure if thats a standard fitment on the 55, but worth it. But I have seen many 55,s with a big big spec out there, check the MB approve car list, they have aprox 14 on there at moment on 02-54 plates £25K to 39K
Do not get one without comand or parking sensors (front & rear) because if you don't the next thing is you'll want to have them retro fitted and that's more expense.
