I purchased a 270 cdi CLK on Friday - my first merc.

Took it for a 3 hour journey that evening then earlier today (Sunday) I tried to start it to drive back home and it wouldnt start. RAC man jumped it and it started, and he did a load of tests on the battery and said it wasnt holding the charge and needed replacing.

I will probably go to my (trusted) indy to get it replaced, but does anyone have any recommendations for what make to replace it with? I dont want to stick any old rubbish in there....

Any advice appreciated!

Reuben

It is said that the MB commercial outlets are the cheapest in some cases

Mb batteries at the moment are well priced, see if you can get your hands on a trade billhead and you should be able to pick up a bargain...

Thanks for advice. I might ring the dealer I got it from and see if he wants to contribute to the cost...

There are a few things that I'm trying to figure out at the moment actually - I'll ask them slowly over time, but one is about the lights. I have the Xenon lights and there isnt a level adjuster so I assume they are the self-levelling ones. However, the lights seemed pretty low to me - on dipped beam the main light thrown out stopped very short (10 foot from car maybe). Is there a way to check that the levelling is working properly?

Halfords also sell Bosch batteries which work out a bit cheaper than from the MB dealerships.
I recently bought a 100Ah Bosch Silver battery from Halfords for £119. MB wanted £140 + £43 for fitting.

That is nice to know and thank you. Other cheap battery places are Costco and Macro

I bought a Bosch Silver 100Ah from Costco for the 250TD earlier in the year. I think it was about £75
An 85Ah for the Kompressor was £56 from memory

I dread mine going. Read all the problems on when you disconnect, all the error codes and faults that happen.

I wish there was a sticky how to on this.

Any volunteers ?

There is one in the DIY by Cole

The local garage I used changed the battery no problems. Replaced with a Varta, 3 year warranty for £97 + vat. Seemed very reasonable. No wierd error codes afterwards.

Thanks for the help.
