French cars can be great in theory. I had a Renault 21 turbo Quadra back in 1994 and it was just brilliant. I like the Vel Satis but only in theory - I can't live with the probable hassle of all the electronic rubbish going wrong, and no back up once they do.

Which is why the 124 wagon is happening and not the VS! Albeit not a diesel 124.....

Never had a VW - or an Audi. Maybe I'm missing out, but Audi's are driven by nobbers these days (apologies to anyone out there with one!).

Mrs w44nty has a Renault Megane 1.9 TD Cabriolet, she has had it for 4 years and apart from servicing yearly and 4 new tyres nothing else spent, 65MPG on a run, rust free(wings are plastic),it is a pleasure to drive.

Having had many cars over the years the thing that works best for me is never buy any car beginning with the letter F or R, you cant go wrong.

You never see a Ferrari or Rolls Royce with high milage?
Your Merc or even the humble Skoda will run for at least 200,000 if not 300,000

I have seen high mileage Rollers never Ferrari's, the novelty of that racket does die off.
