I have narrowed my search down for an A Class and have been offered A190 Avantgarde 2001 (51) Dark Grey with black leather, 1 owner from new with full MB History.... The problem is 69,000 miles......this car is £4250 from a used indie and will come with 3mths warranty and 12mths MOT.

My gut feeling is that I may have problems with such a high miler but I do not know this make and model well enough

Any advice or suggestions?

Thanks

Steve

Well thats good advice, I have the A160 04 and hate it. I dont like the way it drives and I think it lacks quality.

Semi auto boxes fail at about 50-55k.
Manuals are ok.
timing chains have been known to snap
rear trailing arm bushes wear
air flow meters fail, the engine ECU and air flow are combined so expensive.
Steering racks wear £1100 just for the rack
steering shafts joints wear £260 for new shaft
coils snap
tappet rattle on cold start even on low mileage engines
New alternator is engine out job

Buy a Yaris

My A140 (not much longer :) ) had a new Manual gearbox at 46k, new steering rack, new SRS sensor, steering is awful, not very well made at all. The new A-Class seems better, but after spending over 1000miles in the B-Class (big brother to A-Class), I would say walk away from new A-Classes as well.

I agree. Had one as a loan car and it felt like a real dog.

I agree with all of the above, the new version is much better and a different car.

All Good

I use an A160 Auto for a driving school car, it operates 10 hours per day with at leasy six different drivers per day, has 120,000km on the clock, gets serviced every 10km, and hasn't stopped once.

I have had no major problems in this time.

I do not get it serviced at a MB dealership, but at a small workshop that is a car enthusiast.

Love the car to bits.

Should mention here that it is a early 2001 model.
