This seems to bear similarities to the introduction of the R231 SL? It was first introduced with the R230 3.5l V6 (or very similar) - can't remember if they called it an SL350 or an SL400 at that stage. But very soon changed to the 3.0l twin turbo, and definitely then called it SL400.

So whoever supplied the V5 info to DVLA got confused.

It's Merc who are confused - they have put 3.5L in their data for the car.
