Removed ns wheel arch liner and ran a flexible brush through the corner drain right through the pipework. replaced the rubber valve and the liner. Water flow now perfect. ns middle drain blocked. could not free, used said flexibrush, wire, etc, could not budge it. Is it accessible from beneath the car? os middle drains well. So many bends on these I can't get anything down. Any ideas? I am loath to use a chemical drain unblocker, as its likely to be leaf detritus, nor hair and grease. Although I have 3 out of 4 windscreen drains working, it is bugging me. Ta.

Me? Nothing o_O

My Mercedes, on the other hand, nearly gave me a heart attack today - the car sat for a couple of days in a car park, came this morning and found a huge paddle of fresh looking oily stuff under it:

Checked everything - no a drop or smudge inside, as far as I could see.

Luckily, I have a rear dashcam:

^^^ that's me reversing into the bay two days ago, in case it requires clarification ;)

watched my 216 disappear up the road with its new owner , first time ive ever heard it from the outside , wow what an incredible sound it made :D
The moments in life that are abstract can be caught by the sight of, and especially the sound of, what has given us real pleasure. I've had a sense of this by asking someone to simply move my car out of the way so someone could get by. Of course they took the opportunity to feel what I already knew and went shooting up the road and disappear for quite some time. The recognition for seeing a totally new angle and motion of my car was in an instant amazing and also scary. I urge us all to feel this emotional pull because it is love. Bless your 216 and all that love her now.

So the wind noise drowns the exhaust out....
No wind noise in an SL under 90 mph, just a smooooth ride, came back from the City today roof down all the way even on the dual carriageways at 70mph, had handsfree telecons no problem at all...

You're just not going fast enough then... :D

I took an R230 to Le Mans this year, the wind noise was far louder than the exhaust at everything other than slow speed. Yes you can easily hold a conversation to well over 70, (it's one of the great design elements of SL's (and SLK's)) but the wind noise still overtakes the exhaust sound.

I try and drive in convoy with one of my other vehicles whenever possible, great way to check on the suspension shock absorbers (I see loads of cars with tyres bouncing around when driving around, implying the shockers are cream-crackered but the driver is blissfully unaware (until they have to brake hard that is...)) as well as any (visible) exhaust emissions and just to admire them on the road

I've been fortunate to drive a few AMG engined SL's (including the 1 I took to Le Mans) , I was a particular fan of the supercharger whistle on the SL55, still couldn't hear the exhaust at speed though. same in a Dodge Viper and you don't get much louder than that - although my Termi exhausted Ducati would even give the viper a run for it's money noise wise (the exhausts would set off car alarms) again when you're going for it the exhaust noise is behind you and the wind noise takes over.

The worst thing about driving on a dual carriageway, or motorway, with the top down are all the diesels. I tend to put the roof up unless I am on a nice single carriageway preferably in the countryside.
